ITALIAN LANGUAGE AND STUDIES SEMESTER 

 

Introduction to The Program
The Italian Language and Studies Semester is an interdisciplinary program that combines the language, literature, history and culture of Italy.

This program is based on a total semester credit load of 12 credits.

 

The base of the program is an intensive Italian language course. Students may choose between a nine or twelve credit Italian language program. Students who opt for the nine credit Italian option may take one additional three credit course. Students choosing the 12-credit option would be able to add another course for an additional fee. All students enrolled in this program must have a student visa for Italy or be able to legally study and live in the European Union based on nationality.

Students may add an additional three credit Italian studies course for an additional fee. 

 

The Italian language course meets on the following days and times:

 

Monday to Thursday from 9:00 to 11:30 (12 contact hours per week)

Mondays 12:00 – 14:30  (weekly) Contemporary Italy lecture series 

Tuesdays 12:00 - 14:30 (weekly) Italian Cinema

 

The first Thursday of the session 18:00 PM - 20:00 - one 2-hour cooking and language class. (as per above)

 

Students are expected to complete at least three hours per week in the language lab. (link to language lab description)

 

The Italian Language and Studies Semester includes the following:

 

12 credit semester program consisting of:

 

9 credit Italian language course and one 3 credit Italian studies course OR 12 credit Italian course.

 

Possibility of adding a second 3 credit course.

Opportunity to participate in over 180 hours of cultural and sporting activities during the semester.

Volunteer opportunities – up to 20 hours per week.

Access to computer labs, printing facilities and WiFi at Squola and Florence University of the Arts. 

Week-long orientation program

All required textbooks and materials for the successful completion of the course. (Textbooks and dictionary) to be returned at the end of term. 

Volunteer opportunities (link Internship et al) – up to 20 hours per week**.

Gym membership for the duration of the course.

Option to receive US university credit. 

Assistance in obtaining a student visa. 

 

Application fee and tuition:

 

Application Fee: € 100.00

Material Fees*: € 400.00

Tuition: € 2.500.00

Total Cost: € 2.500.00

 

Total fees + housing (shared rooms) and meal plan of 70 vouchers at Ganzo Acli**: € 5,400, add € 590.00 for a single room. 

 

*Material Fees include costs for all textbooks, semester activity fees, cooking class, all museum and site entry fees and reservations, related class fieldtrips.

 

**Meal Plan at Ganzo Cultural and Gastronomic Association. Students will be given a total of 70 meal vouchers that can be used for lunch or dinner. Students may purchase additional vouchers.
